To constantly achieve new breakthroughs to draw eyeballs to our health and beauty business. Also, to transform our products to necessity.
Covid-19 has dramatically changed the entire landscape of doing business globally. To establish stronghold in markets with demand for our businesses, we have moved into digital, regional call centre, and cross-integration platforms to reach out to more markets never before. Past global economic tsunami has heightened us to gear up such platforms and measures even before this pandemic struck.
Fei Fah’s founder, Mr. Loh Yung Chai, was the first generation of the Chinese diaspora to the Malayan peninsular. He was a Chinese physician and the only individual who provided affordable medical care to a rural town community in Pahang, Malaysia since the mid-1930s. During those times, there were no proper roads to the city and modern healthcare was not only a luxury but non-existent. Mr. Loh toiled from early break to dusk every day to tend to the sick because he knew that he was not running a business to care for his customers. Instead he learnt that it was his call to reduce pain in the ordinary peoples’ lives.
His daily encounters with sufferings, new born and deaths, gave him a deeper understanding of humanity. As a Chinese Hakka descendant, the virtue of savings and frugal lifestyle also enabled him to contribute more of his accumulated wealth back to the community by building schools and later hospitals as well as helping the community with special needs. He had never taken a plane but he found a purpose more meaningful and gratifying.
Mr. Lau Keong Ying was the founder’s eldest son. In much of Mr. Lau’s adulthood, the relationship with his father were more like best friends. With the son being very respectful and talkative more than he used to when they were together; and the father enjoying every moment he spent with the son. The founder had a strong influence on shaping Mr. Lau’s character since young and later career development when he extended the founder’s legacy to Singapore to set up Fei Fah Drug Store.
Fei Fah Drug Store was founded in 1950 at 155 South Bridge Road, in the heart of Singapore Chinatown. The shop served Chinese customers within the South East Asian region, seafarers and local community by retailing traditional Chinese herbs and off the shelves modern medicine. It was a well-known corner medical shop in that area.
Fei Fah Electric Medibalm, an external analgesic balm was developed by Mr. Lau as he reckoned the most immediate pain and suffering alleviation could just be a simple external application; but it has to be effective. He launched the product in the market in 1970 and the trademark of “Fei Fah” was registered in 1974. Fei Fah Electric Medibalm was conceptualized by the founder and then developed by Mr. Lau. The first product of Fei Fah.
